FIFA officially announced on Tuesday (12) the “transfer ban” applied to Corinthians, which is now prohibited from registering new players.
The measure was taken due to a debt of 6.1 million dollars (R$ 33.4 million at the current rate) with Santos Laguna for the signing of defender Félix Torres in January last year.
Corinthians needs to settle this amount by reaching an agreement with the Mexican club.
If unsuccessful, Timão will not be able to sign for three windows, including the current one.
The club only paid the down payment for Torres’ signing. It has not paid any of the remaining five installments, the first of which was due in May last year.
Aware that the punishment was a real possibility, Corinthians rushed to announce attacking midfielder Vitinho last Monday (11).
Free on the market after leaving Saudi Al-Ettifaq, he was only the second signing made for this season – left-back Angileri was the first.
Ecuadorian Félix Torres, 28, played 52 games last season. And he has played 25 games this season, scoring one goal.
