At Nilton Santos Stadium, Botafogo defeated RB Bragantino 2 x 0, this Tuesday (29), in the first leg of the round of 16 of the 2025 Copa do Brasil.
The match was completely dominated by the current champions of the Brasileirão and of America.
The Paulistas, in fact, only threatened at the beginning of the match, with a cross shot from Sasha saved by John.
Afterwards, it was all Botafogo, who opened the scoring with Montoro, completing Vitinha’s low cross from the right first time.
The Glorious did not slow down, gave goalkeeper Cleiton a lot of work, and scored the second goal still in the first half.
Now, in a counter-attack led from the left side, Cuiabano crossed perfectly for defender Alexander Barboza, like a well-positioned centre-forward in the opponent’s area, to head into the back of the net.
After the break, Botafogo had good chances to extend the lead even further, but the score was not changed anymore.
In fact, in stoppage time, Massa Bruta had a great opportunity, but John made a great save to keep the good advantage for Botafogo in the match.
With the victory, Botafogo can even lose by one goal, next Wednesday (6), at Cícero de Souza Marques Stadium, and still advance to the quarterfinals.
RB Bragantino needs to win by three goals difference to guarantee the classification. In case of a win by two goals, the spot will be decided on penalties.
Massa Bruta returns to the field next Sunday (3), when they visit Atlético-MG, at MRV Arena, for the 18th round of the Brasileirão, while the Glorious hosts Cruzeiro, at Nilton Santos Stadium, for the national championship.
