Manny Pacquiao’s first boxing match in almost four years is set for Saturday, July 19, when he takes on WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao, 46, will try to do the unthinkable and beat not only Barrios, but also Father Time by besting his own record as the oldest man to win a welterweight title. It’s a distinction Pacquiao (62-8-2) already achieved when, in July 2019, Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman by split decision to claim the WBA welterweight title at 40.
Barrios, 30, was a perfect 26-0 before he suffered back-to-back losses to Gervonta Davis (June 2021) and Thurman (February 2022). Since then, Barrios (29-2-1) is 3-0-1 with wins over Jovanie Santiago, Yordenis Ugas, Fabian Maidana, and most recently a split draw with Abel Ramos last November on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson undercard.
Pacquiao’s most recently fought in August 2021 as he dropped a unanimous decision to Ugas.
