“[Newly appointed Werder head coach] Horst Steffen has made it very clear to me that I am number one,” Zetterer told the Münchner Merkur. “I want to stay here in Bremen and play another good season. I think we can qualify for Europe.”
The 29-year-old Zetterer nevertheless remains under contract with his Hanseatic city state side through 2027. Bremen are under to pressure to sell and Zetterer also made clear that he felt no internal pressure from Backhaus.
“[Horst Steffen and I] are a perfect match,” Zetterer said. “He wants to play football. That suits me well. There’s always a challenger of some sort.“
